Prayers (5th Sunday in Lent)

Prayer of Adoration

Loving God,
We meet with you, separated by distance,
but united in your Spirit,
be present with each of us as we seek to worship you.

God of covenant,
You are worthy to be praised,
for you always keep your promises.
And just as you demonstrated your love
by liberating your people from their slavery,
you sent Christ into the world
to be lifted up,
to be glorified,
and to draw us near.

So in response we come to worship you
to draw near to your love revealed in Christ Jesus
and welcome you, through the Holy Spirit,
into our hearts.

Be with each of us
as we welcome you into the intimacy of our lives,
wherever we may be at this moment.

Prayer of Confession

Loving God,
as we recognise your presence in our lives,
made possible through the gift of Christ,
we become aware of our own faults
and the times where we may not have put love first:
the occasions where our own fears
have meant we focussed more on ourselves
than the needs of others;
the occasions where our own defensiveness
has meant we’ve reacted in ways
which have hurt others.

Forgive us God for the times we’ve got it wrong.

God understands our weaknesses,
and through Christ and the Holy Spirit,
God’s love remains in our hearts
and we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
