Prayers (8th Sunday after Pentecost)

P

Prayer of adoration

Creator God,
You are the eternal source of all that is, all that was and all that will be.
You make the smallest of seeds become the greatest of trees.
You have made a world full of potential to thrive,
vast rainforests, oceans, woodlands, fields,
animals and creatures, from the smallest unseen to the largest and powerful.
And even in its broken state, you take the feeblest of us and give us life,
love us dearly and promise us the gift of a transformed life in Christ.
Amen.

Prayer of confession

God of the smallest seed,
Forgive us when we think the weight of your reign
depends on us and what we do,
forgive us when we think we have to solve all the Church’s problems
and forget that it is you that reigns over the Church,
forgive us when we fail to remember that even the smallest act
in the name of your reign can grow into the largest blessing to others.
In Christ, we are forgiven and transformed.
Amen.

Prayer of thanksgiving

God of the universe, of the heavens, of the earth,
We give you thanks that in Christ
there is nothing that can separate us from your love. Amen.

Prayer of intercession

Loving God,
We pray for your Church,
that we may plant seeds in our world
that will grow into the greatest of shrubs.

Guide us so that we may share your good news of liberation,
of justice and compassion, of release to the captives,
and represent your reign in the world.

Fill us with your Spirit in the name of Christ Jesus.
Amen.
